Errata

Errata

Why this? When Seikai no Monshou and Seikai no Senki were licensed for U.S release, the translator made several errors when creating an English script for the series. Some may say, Japanese is a hard language and people can make mistakes. Yes, of course that is true, but with my low knowledge of the language I myself have picked up several mistakes. A few other people on the net have gone out of their way to also post errors that appear during the series, Crest of the Stars Oddessy and at Seikai no Monshou (Crest of the Stars).

To begin with lets look at the names…It is actually quite understandable but I might as well put them up anyway. A minor note, some of the names do not have any references for the official spelling, but the names presented by Bandai are very incorrect from what they would have been if writin in Baronh. Also titles such as Earl, Viscount, King and so forth are correct in the names of Noble Abh. The only deference with the correct spelling is that the Baronh word is used instead.

There are also several translation errors as well.

Laicch on the first Crest of the Stars DVD referred to her self as "hyakushouchou" translated as Hecto-Commander, but the subtitles on the Bandai DVDs wrote it as Captain.

Tlaïmh called his subordinate Cuhurh "senshouchou" and that is translated as Kilo-Commander, but you are given Major in the subtitles.

That's just to name a few, all of the rank names are changed from the original meanings threw the entire licensed version of Crest of the Stars. This is some what fixed in Banner of the Stars ^^

Another error that just bothered me the most out of the entire translations, is Laicch in episode 4-5 refers to her crew as "Watashi wa kawaii nada dachi" (Spelling maybe way off because I can't spell Japanese even if my life depended on it, I can only understand it by so so)

Anywhoo translated its "My cute little children" Laicch is a lot older than she appears because of the Genetic check all Abhs go through, so she is of course older than them. For some reason Bandai put in "Me and my precious courageous crew" Wouldn't that be "Watashi wa kishoukachi isamashii jouin" (ok spelling again ^^;;)

"Calicke" was used as a unique name for the shuttle attached to the Gauthloth, in fact it is the name for that class of ship. I think the proper Baronh spelling is Carécec.

Also the Anti-Matter and Anti-substance...I'm not entirely sure as to why the English script uses Anti-substance. I think it was again to get the wording to fit the mouth flaps.

Lets see in Seikai no Monshou I think episode 6 the names of the Abh royal families and the founder names are spelt wrong. No not Bandai's miss spelling but the Baronh spelling. Lets take a look at Lamhirh's family name I forgot what Bandai gives you though.

This is what most people say it is,

Crybh Néïc Dubleuscr

(Néïc is a title only given to the royal families, that is then combined with the founder name that appears in the possessive case, so it's really Dubleusch)

Ablïarsec Néïc Dubleuscr Bœrh Parhynr Lamhirh

(Crybh does not appear in the name)

I translated it and got

Crÿub Néïc Dïcgrésc

(Note in the anime Néïc is replaced with a = or something weird...I don't remember ^^;;)

Dïcgrésc is obviously wrong because it's not in it's possessive case. Crÿub is remotely close. I am not sure of the official spelling but it is pretty obvious that the names are miss spelled by the anime team.....I just threw them on my site anyway I really don't care. I might look at it some more in the future. (Thanks to Seikai for helping me with it ^^)

Another one is, when Lamhirh brought Ghintec into the ship, he says some remark about beautiful women. Lamhirh then replies "There is a cute pilot"....um....Abh do not refer to them selves as cute or beautiful, I would have phrased it as "There is an elegant pilot"

I noticed in the English script Tlaïmh claims "The information department wouldn't know if a rat came up and bit them on the ankle!". Although...in the Japanese track I clearly heard him say neko (cat) and more along the lines as claiming they are good Cat breeders (at least the subs stuck with cat) I think it was to get the words to fit the mouth flaps or something >_<

Also the Shes Gedrel...I clearly hear them say Shes Kedrel in the Japanese track. (che cedlairh, is the proper spelling)

Thief boy and the old women in the space port during episode two....they are not suppose to be subtitled...it is all made up by the English translator.

Again lets take a look at the names, particularly Dusanh's name

Abriel Nei Ramsahl King Blake Dusanyu
Ablïarsec Néïc Lamsar Larth Barcoer Dusanh

Ok I got the Bandai name off the official website, they give you Ramsahl....but in Crest of the Stars they use

Abriel Nei Limzale Balke Dusanyu

First there is one mistake is that they didn't check back when working on Seikai no Senki. Also Limzale(Limzairh)...is the name of the hotel Ghintec and Lamhirh stayed at in the later episodes. Check the spelling you'll see. Also when in episode one You can clearly here the person say Lamsar which of course the heavy Japanese accent you still can here it....its as bad as the shes gedrel

Also for some reason when characters refer to them selves, or others in terms of being "elegant" it's changed to different wordings.

Again another simlar instance to that of the theif boy, is when Cyte of the Human Union is threating Lamhirh he says "Nntona Abh!" This is a word that appears in his unique language, but it was changed to "Revolting Abh!"

Spaurh is refered to as "dai-koushaku" and that is translated to "Great Duchess" This is then changed to "Duchess" It is one rank lower than her in noble status but I would have been happy if they stayed with "Great Duchess"

More to come ^^ I don't whach the English track very much, so if there are any errors in that or some that I missed and you wish to contribute feel free to by contacting me on my forum.
